Our Charity received a funding application from Caritas – Hong Kong to purchase an Automated External Defibrillator cum ECG for Caritas Evergreen Home. Caritas Evergreen Home is a contract elderly residential home providing all round caring services to over a hundred frail elders. They provide daily caring and training services to the bed-bound or wheelchair-bound and demented residents.

The Automated External Defibrillator cum ECG will provide emergency service once the Home’s residents has heart attack.

SWD had provided funding support for procurement of some basic medical equipment. Therefore The Home is seeking other funding support for the procurement of additional equipment to provide better quality care to residents.

Our Charity granted the application to Caritas Evergreen Home to purchase the above named defibrillator.


Prevention of Disease Outbreak for the Elderly

A.J.R. has kindly funded Christian & Missionary Alliance Social Services

’ project on Prevention of Disease Outbreak for the Elderly. From July, volunteers visited the elderly each month, 9 times in total, and were successful in visiting 412 elderly who are living alone or in pairs. Our volunteers will send their regards, give out gift bags and hygienic prevention bags to the elderly, so that they will feel loved by the community.

 

  1. To build a positive attitude in the weak and isolated elderly living in Aberdeen. Let the 30 volunteers to express their love in their respective ways and spread the message of helping each other.
  2. To raise the awareness of indoor hygiene to the elderly in order to prevent disease.
  3. To help the social minorities in the community to increase their supporting resources.

To gather human assets in the society, to utilize manpower and develop their respective talents.

T.W.G.Hs. Fong Shu Chuen District Elderly Community Centre – Integrated Home Care Services now serving more than 440 elderly. Among them, mostly are weak physically and those who live alone have a very narrow social networks and receive limited love and care from their family members. This year, the season of winter has arrived particularly early. Thus, to reduce the risk of danger due to the severe weather, and to show the society’s loving kindness to the elderly, A.J.R. has decided to fund the community center to give out warm clothes to the elderly in order to keep them warm throughout the winter.

The Association of Baptists for World Evangelism Po Lam Baptist Church Bradbury Elderly Centre owned a number of wheelchairs donated by charity organizations. However, the physical abilities of the elderly are worsening these days and some of the wheelchairs are broken and unable to be repaired. Therefore, there is an increasing amount of elderly who are poor and require wheelchairs from the center. As a result, A.J.R. has decided to purchase 4 wheelchairs and 3 other equipments for walking for Po Lam Baptist Church Bradbury Elderly Centre, in hopes to improve the daily convenience of the elderly.

A.J.R. has kindly funded the Association of Baptists for World Evangelism Po Lam Baptist Church Bradbury Elderly Centre for purchasing woolen balls and knitting needles.

 

Po Lam Baptist Church Bradbury Elderly Centre aims to provide all types of services for the elderly, including social dancing, culture and leisure, education and volunteer works. Since 2007, the center has organized a knitting group formed by volunteers, visiting the knitting center every Monday to knit scarves. However, the budget applied for the equipments needed in 2007 is running out, therefore, A.J.R. has decided to purchase some new woolen balls and knitting needles for the center, in hopes to show love to the elderly.

A.J.R. has kindly funded T.W.G.Hs. Fong Shu Chuen District Elderly Community Centre’s project on Prevention of Disease Outbreak and Promote Safety for the Elderly.

 

T.W.G.Hs. Fong Shu Chuen District Elderly Community Centre took this opportunity to introduce and explain the hazards caused by swine flu, and through the distribution of ‘health and safety bags’to the elderly, they are taught how to prevent from swine flu infection. As a result, the elderly would know the right way to handle the threat of the swine flu. Moreover, the community center has also distributed the ‘health and safety bags’ in the canteen, in order to raise the awareness of the importance of hygiene.

From 2004, T.W.G.Hs. Fong Shu Chuen District Elderly Community Centre introduced the 5th phase of Home Maintenance for the Elderly, aiming to improve the living environment of the elderly, show the society’s love, care and resources to offer to them and also strengthen their sense of belonging to the society. Luckily, the Community Center received an agreement from the volunteers of the Architectural Services Department to continue with the Home Maintenance project in 2009-2010 and have further recruited more volunteers from different backgrounds to serve the elderly. Therefore, A.J.R. has kindly decided to fund T.W.G.Hs. Fong Shu Chuen District Elderly Community Centre’s project on Home Maintenance for the Elderly, in hopes of improving the living standards of the elderly.

  1. To equip the elderly with sufficient prevention towards the coming winter, such as giving out clothes and blankets, to reduce the risk of the elderly from encountering cold-related problems.

To improve the communication between volunteers and the elderly, so that the elderly may feel the loving kindness of the society and have a better understanding of the society’s resources.

Annual Chinese Dinner Celebration

The Annual Chinese Dinner is a Chinese tradition, it is particularly important to the Chinese elderly. The elderly in Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui’s Integrated Home Caring Services mostly are living alone and dependent on others to help them carry out their daily activities. Therefore, this annual dinner has provided an opportunity for the volunteers to show the love and care that the society offers to the elderly. Furthermore, in hopes to unite all the elderly together and strengthen their individuals’ social networks and keep updated along with the social issues and enjoy the festive atmosphere. Due to all the above advantages, A.J.R. has decided to support the funding of the Annual Chinese Dinner Celebration.
