The Association of Baptists for World Evangelism Po Lam Baptist Church Bradbury Elderly Centre started providing services for the elderly over 60 years old at Tseung Kwan O from 1988. It strives to offer activities like social, leisure, educational and volunteer work to its members. To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the community center, a series of activities are carried out. On 14th January, 2009, the Annual Chinese Dinner was held at the Tseung Kwan O district, the programme was specially designed to celebrate the center’s 20th anniversary, so that the elderly can celebrate a joyful and unforgettable festival as well. Therefore, due to this circumstance, A.J.R. has kindly funded Po Lam Baptist Church Bradbury Elderly Centre’s programme on the Annual Chinese Dinner for the Elderly.

The Association of Baptists for World Evangelism Po Lam Baptist Church Bradbury Elderly Centre started to provide all types of social services in 1951, as means to improve the living standard of the elderly. In December, 2008, Po Lam Baptist Church Bradbury Elderly Centre held a Christmas Party for the elderly, so that they can enjoy the joyous festive atmosphere together. Thus, A.J.R. has decided to provide a city bus and 2 coaches for the elderly to take pleasure in admiring the Christmas lightings outdoors and have a happy Christmas.

The Association of Baptists for World Evangelism Po Lam Baptist Church Bradbury Elderly Centre was founded in 1983 serving the elderly in Lai King. It aims to provide all types of groups and activities to sustain the mental and physical development of the elderly. Services provided by the community center include, health check-up, renting of health equipments, etc. Therefore, for the greater convenience of the Elderly, A.J.R. has kindly decided to purchase a notice board and an active board for Po Lam Baptist Church Bradbury Elderly Centre to notify the elderly about the upcoming events.


Establishing the Methodist Kin Lok Centre

The main objective of this new center by Wan Chai Methodist Centre for the seniors is to maintain the physical well being of the elderly. Five programsare held to achieve this goal in general: General fitness training, exercise classes with health talks, monthly physical check up, individual physiotherapy case handling and cardiac rehabilitation programme. These programs aim to improve the health status of the elderly and to increase theirawareness of the importance of a healthy lifestyle. Its main features are as below:

 

  1. To meet the physical and social needs of members aged over 60.
  2. To enable members to better utilize their leisure time by performing exercise in center.
  3. To promote the sense of importance of health through talks.

 

Due to the usefulness of this elderly health center, A.J.R. has decided to sponsor health equipments to the center for the benefits of the elderly.

A.J.R. has kindly funded Yang Memorial Methodist Social Service Choi Hung Community Center for Senior Citizens’ programme of visiting the Elderly on Mid-Autumn Festival. This project mainly focused on:

 

  1. To improve the communication between volunteers and their family members through the distributing of mooncakes, so that the relationship between family members may be forstered.
  2. Elderly who are living alone or socially isolated may feel the loving kindness of the society during the visits.

To provide a happy and harmonic atmosphere who the elderly who are healthy and weak, so that they can enjoy the joyous festival together.

A.J.R. has kindly funded T.W.G.Hs. Fong Shu Chuen District Elderly Community Centre’s project on Pressure Management for the Elderly:

 

In 2007-2009, T.W.G.Hs. Fong Shu Chuen District Elderly Community Centre has promoted the programme ‘Worry Free Life’ pressure management scheme. Its aim is to educate the elderly with a positive attitude when facing with pressure. 3000 copies of a 24-paged ‘Pressure Management for the Elderly Handbook’ and interactive CDs were given out to them, introducing some exercises on stress release and ways to improve social relationships and networking skills.

  1. To educate the elderly about the prevention against cold weather, and offer them hot soup and loving kindness throughout the winter.

To improve the communication between volunteers and the elderly, so that the elderly may feel the care offered by the community and have a better understanding of the society’s resources.

A.J.R. has kindly funded the project on Volunteer Support Network for the Elderly (Phase 5 and 6). This project mainly focused on:

 

  1. To promote better compliance and health consciousness among the elderly, and strengthen the elders social support network through the mobilization of the volunteers.
  2. To enhance the medical knowledge and skills of volunteer in caring of the elderly.
  3. To promote social concern and volunteerism in the community for needy elderly.

 

The project was held at 2003-2004 for phase 1, 2004-2005 for phase 2, 2005-2006 for phase 3, and 2006-2007 phase 4.

To maintain a stimulating and well-resourced learning environment for the students of Ebenezer School by upgrading the information technological support acquired. AJR Charitable Foundation Ltd donated 15 Philips LCD monitors (15”), 18 Philips LCD monitors (19”), 7 Desktop PCs, 1 Jaws and 1 Zoomtext V9.04 to Ebenezer School.
