Mr. Wong, aged 64, was suffered from Diabetes complicated with retinopathy and a stroke two years ago. Recently, he has been recommended the Anti- VEGF therapy for his eye problem but it was a privately purchased item.

Mr. Wong was a businessman. However, he encountered a great financial hardship and applied bankruptcy. Even though the bankruptcy order was finished, he still owed a lot of money to his friends and business partner. It is also not easy for him to get a job due to his age and health condition. As he could not secure his family’s living, he divorced with his wife and his son left him too.

Currently, he is working as a part time Jewelry craftsman in Shenzhen with around RMB 4,000 per month. The income is just adequate for the basic living.

Madam Yu, aged 61 has 2 sons and 2 daughters. She is living with her daughter in the reported address. with the assistance of CSSA in a reported flat. Her co-living daughter is not under CSSA as she wishes to find a job in the near future and to be self-supporting financially. Her other daughter is suffering from mental retardation resides at a hostel while the other two sons passed away.

Madam Yu has suffered from left eye branch retinal vein occlusion and she attends regular Eye SOPD. And Mdm Yu is recommended for 3 doses of LUCENTIS intravitreal injections. Degeneration and she attends regular Eye SOPD.

Since Madam Lau is suffering from polypoid choroidal vasculopathy and attends regular eye OPD, she needs to receive the injections of Lucentis to cure her disease. However, with genuine financial difficulty, she is not able to afford the expensive cost of the injections.

Luckily, with AJR’s help, she is sponsored by $35,000 to receive injections in hopes of curing her polypoid choroidal vasculopathy.

Madam Lee is suffered from right eye macula branch retinal vein with macula edema. She is recommended to have three doses of Lucentis injection. She has a great financial difficulty for the medical expenses. However, St. James Settlement could only sponsor her to receive two doses of injection.

Mr Yu, aged 46, has divorced and has lost contact with his two children and ex-wife for 10 years. Mr. Yu used to work as a Dim Sum Chef, however, due to his sickness he quitted his job for a period of time. Now he relies on CSSA for livening.

Mr. Yu is suffering from Hepatocellular carcinoma. According to his Doctor, the nature of the retropertoneal lymph nodes needs to be defined before any appropriate treatment would be made. So a Dual Tracer PET is necessary. Mr. Yu is recommended to use the PET service in private hospital by his doctor as this service is not available under Hospital Authority.

Luckily with AJP’s help, Mr. Yu was sponsored with a total of $14,340 for the PET Scan

Madam Cheng is recommended to have Anti- VEGF injection and one Ozurdex injection. However, she expressed to have a difficulty in paying such a high medical expenses due to her financial condition.

Luckily, with AJR’s help, she is sponsored to have three doses of Anti- VEGF injection and one Ozurdex injection.

Mr. Wong, aged 61, lives with his wife and son on CSSA. He has lost working ability and was unemployed for 10 years while the wife worked as a clerk and the son worked as a technician, earning about $28,000 per month in total.
However, his wife has serious gambling habit and the family sold a flat in 2010 to repay her old debt, but his wife did not show any improvement on gambling habit and even withdrew Mr. Wong’s security money by using his EPS card without seeking consent from him. The family financial condition was poor and he would like to divorce and moved to new place with the son afterwards.
Mr. Wong has been suffering from traction detachment of retina, senile cataract and operations were done, but his eye condition was still unstable. He is recommended to receive three doses of Lucentis injection. He expressed to have a great financial difficulty for the medical expense.
