Mr. Lau, aged 83, lives with his wife on CSSA. They are retired and have five adult children and only the youngest daughter lives in Hong Kong. The other four children live in the Mainland as farmers and the youngest daughter is a housewife. They have no financial support to the couple.

Mr. Lau suffers from right eye age-related macular degeneration. He is recommended to have three doses of Lucentis injection. However, he expressed to have a great financial difficulty in paying such a high cost of medical expense.

Luckily, with AJR’s help, he is sponsored to receive three doses of Lucentis injection.

Mr. Lam, aged 65, lives with his wife on CSSA. They are retired and have two children who are Mainland residents and have no right of abode in Hong Kong.
Both Mr. Lam and his wife are suffering from diabetes and his wife needed to inject insulin as regular treatment. Mr. Lam is recommended to have a course of lucentis. However, he expressed that the CSSA could only satisfy daily expenses and they failed to have any saving for the future.
Luckily, with AJR’s help, he is sponsored to receive three doses of intravitreal Lucentis injection to one eye.

Mr. Lam, aged 87, lives on CSSA. He is retired and started to live alone after his wife moved to live in a subvented C&A home for the elderly. He has a son which has a poor financial condition and has no financial contribution to him.
Mr. Lam is diagnosised as left eye central retinal vein occlusion and macular edema. He is advised to receive three doses Anti-VEGF injection. However, he could not afford to pay for the advised injection.
Luckily, with AJR’s help, he is sponsored to receive left eye intravitreal anti-VEGF injection for three doses.

Madam Chu suffers from right eye vision problem. She is suggested to receive a dosage of Verteporfin for serious choroidopathy in right eye. However, she expressed great financial difficulty to pay for the medical expense due to limited financial source. Neither the Hospital Authority nor the Social Welfare Department has financial assistance for this drug.
Luckily, with AJR’s help, she is sponsored to receive right eye Verteporfin photodynamic therapy for one dose.

Detailed Information:

Madam Chan, aged 64, lives on CSSA. She was born in the Mainland and is the youngest among the three siblings. She came to Hong Kong in the 1980s with the reason of travelling to Indonesia for joining her father at there. She remained in Hong Kong after her arrival and worked in a garment factory. She worked till 2001. Madam Chan has no close relatives except a cousin.

Madam Chan is suffering from central retinal vein occlusion (both eyes) and she attended regular medical consultations. She was recommended to have three intravitreal injections of Aflibercept for her impaired left eye vision. She had received Lucentis injection for her right eye before and had further two injections of Acastin in UEC under our fund in 2014.

However, this drug would not be supported by the Government Special Drug Program and she has expressed a great financial hardship to pay such a high cost of medical expenses.

Luckily, with AJR’s help, she is sponsored for three doses of intravitreal injections of Aflibercept.

He has expressed a great financial difficulty in paying the high medical expenses and neither the Hospital Authority nor the Social Work Department has financial assistance in this drug.
